2007-10-15 Bako Sahakian Met Ara Abrahamian

Chairman of the Union of Russian Armenians and World Congress of Armenians Ara Abrahamyan and Nagorno-Karabakh president Bako Sahakian agreed on a number of programs involving development of rural communities, renovation of hospitals and schools. Abrahamyan said that a residential area for military personnel will be built in Nagorno-Karabakh, as about 2000 servicemen still have housing problems. Referring to the upcoming presidential elections in Armenia, Chairman of the Union of Russian Armenians said that the Union has not decided yet whom to support in the upcoming election. Ara Abrahamyan said that a decision will be made after the final nomination of candidates. Commenting on the adoption of resolution 106, Ara Abrahamian reminded that the government of the United States is Turkey’s strategic ally, the US is at war with Iraq, Afghanistan and is preparing for a war or sanctions on Iran and Turkey is highly important for the United States. Abrahamian said that Turkey should not be underestimated. Ara Abrahamyan expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that Armenian organizations in the US prevented the World Congress of Armenians from setting up a branch in the US and becoming involved in the process of recognition of the Genocide. According to him he arranged with the US government, addressed Armenians in Los Angeles, answered to their numerous questions and explained that the World Armenian Congress aims to set up a branch in the US to enable closer relations between the two communities. Abrahamian said that unfortunately U.S. media announced that the World Armenian Congress has nothing to do in the US and they better not interfere with the activity of other Armenian organizations. He said that they have temporarily left the issue of setting up a branch aside, but they will have a branch in the US, as there are many issue left unsolved, which means lot of works needs to be carried out. According to him if the World Armenian Congress dealt with the issue of recognition of the Genocide in the US, the issue could have made considerable progress.

2007-10-15 Serj Sarkissian at Aragatsotn Province

The camp was built by the Yerevan based Arabkir medical center in cooperation with United Arabkir Children Charity fund. Charity organizations from Switzerland, USA, Germany and Norway have also contributed to its creation. The budget of the camp totaled $700,000. The camp can accommodate up to 180 children with special needs. Next Sarkissian visited the Areg village in Talin where he participated in the opening of new drinking and irrigation water pipelines. Sarkissian also visited BioKat dairy factory in Talin and then proceeded to the village of Kosh to meet a local farmer Armen Aslanian who cultivates 139 hectares of orchards. His last stop was in the village of Chknakh to see a repaired drinking water pipeline, a culture house and a church.

Armenian defense minister Michael Haroutyounian expressed his contentment with the conditions created for the servicemen. The defense minister stayed for dinner to make sure the solders are properly fed. Defense minister Haroutyounian assured that within the next year another 2 canteens will be reconstructed.

2007-10-15 Yerevan is 2789 Years Old

The festivities started on October 11 with a concert at the national Opera and Ballet academic theater after Alexander Spendiarian. Among the events were exhibitions, chess and other sport tournaments, festivities and games for children. On October 13 Yerevan Mayor Yervand Zakharyan awarded distinguished workers in various spheres with medals, certificates and orders.
