2007-10-22 Hovhannes Toumanian’s fairy tales are 100 years old

Heroes from Toumanian’s fairy tales gathered today at the writer’s museum and marched to Freedom square, to pay tribute to their creator and favorite writer at his memorial.

The separately published collection of the artist spouses was presented during a joint event. The pair received Hakob Meghapart medals for their contribution to the development of art in Armenia.

2007-10-22 The construction throughout Yerevan

According to deputy Mayor Karen Davtian it was foreseen to finish the construction of the upper part of the passages by September, but the works will conclude by December. Davtian said that the construction of underground passages will be finished until the end of the ongoing year. He also said that the construction works of Northern Avenue will conclude by mid November.

2007-10-22 Armenian Prime Minister in Los Angeles

During the meeting the Armenian Prime Minister spoke at length about his government’s performance, future plans and challenges faced by the country. He also spoke about the May 12 parliamentary elections saying that the upcoming presidential elections must be organized better. Later the day the Armenia premier met with the leadership of Lincy Foundation. During a conversation with Kirk Kirkorian the latter told the prime minister about his intention to visit Armenia in the near future. In the evening Serzh Sarkisian attended a dinner party organized in his honor by Los Angeles-based Armenian organizations. During the event the prime minister addressed those present and spoke about Armenian government’s efforts to build a strong and prosperous Armenia. In the evening of October 20 Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan left Los Angeles for Washington. On October 21 Serge Sargsyan hosted the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair Matthew Bryza at the Armenian embassy. They discussed issues of mutual interest. The Armenian prime minister also met with the World Bank leadership.

2007-10-22 The “Zhamanak” Armenian daily celebrate its 100th anniversary

Editor-in-chief of Zhamanak daily newspaper - Ara Kochounian says the newspaper which was established during turbulent times, as was the establishment of the Turkish Republic, gradually became of community significance, and never stopped focusing its attention on national issues. With the independence of Armenian the newspaper changed focus and has ever since kept the Republic of Armenia in its center of attention.

According to him the resolution will help reveal whether the discussion of this issue will commence by principles of fairness and objectivity, proclaimed by the US. According to Zatulin the US House of representatives will not adopt the resolution. Also commenting on ex-president Levon Ter-Petrosians possible political comeback, the Russian parliamentarian said that he respects Ter-Petrosyan and his political experience and his hour long speech prepared for the October 26 rally is already a clear indication of his anticipated comeback. Constantine Zatulin expressed hope that a likely dispute of the government and the opposition will not divide the country on the eve of the elections.
