“The Taste of Passion”
The Taste of Passion, the telenovela written by Ana
Maria Moretzsohn directed by Denise Saraceni, promises
lots of comedy and romance to tell the story of Diana
(Letícia Spiller) and Alexandre (Luigi Baricelli).
Just like a fairy-tale, the leading couple must face
challenges, intrigue, jealousy, hurt and betrayal
so that their love for each other may survive. The
Taste of Passion also brings to the little screen
a lot of funny stuff, music, gastronomy and poetry,
be it during grape harvesting in Portugal or in the
traditional bohemian district of Lapa in Rio de Janeiro.
The Telenovela also touches on social themes like
adoption and adult illiteracy.
The telenovela tells the story of our heroine Diana
(Letícia Spiller) who, after her father’s
sudden death, becomes the head of her family –
her mother and three sisters. To do that, Diana
has to face new challenges. The only way out of
the financial crisis her family is involved is to
get hold of some land her father inherited in Portugal.
The only clue she has is a letter they have found
after her father passed away. Despite the uncertainties,
Diana decides to go to Portugal to find the land.
Before leaving, Diana meets Alexandre (Luigi Baricelli)
in a special celebration night in the Lapa District.
The safety and monotony of her engagement to Nelson
(Marcelo Serrado) is broken and his romantic heart
is taken by this sudden and strong passion –
passion that will bring moments of intense happiness
but also a lot of suffering. Alexandre treats her
as just one more of his romantic conquests.
Fate makes them meet again in Portugal. Diana discovers
that her father’s land produces the best wine
in the region and that they have been illegally
taken by a woman - Zenilda Paixão (Arlete
Salles). Since the legal procedures to recover her
rights over the land are long and slow, Diana needs
to make some money to go back to Brazil and decides
to work in the wine harvesting.
It is in Portugal that our heroine will meet again
the man she had fallen so desperately in love with
during a brief meeting back in Brazil. She finds
out that Alexandre Paixão (Luigi Baricelli)
is a rich owner of wineries and a huge wine producer
in the Vale Douro region, but she doesn’t
have the slightest clue that his lands are the same
she inherited. Going through a huge inner conflict,
Alexandre (Luigi Baricelli) convinces his mother
Zenilda (Arlete Salles) to sign an agreement with
Diana. They would pay a small rent for the land
for a specific period of time, established in the
agreement. Since Diana has no idea of the real value
of the land, she accepts a deal that is really very
bad for her. Before coming back to Brazil, Diana
and Alexandre will enjoy a real honeymoon by the
Douro River, interrupted only by the arrival of
Nelson (Marcelo Serrado) to Portugal.
This is the beginning of a story with lots of ups
and downs for Alexandre and Diana. The rich playboy
is caught between his madly passion and the his
mother’s ambition, and the “Cinderella”
who does not believe in her Prince Charm, because
she thinks his feeling are not real, he is only
interested in the land, but she can’t get
him out of her mind anyway.

Following
the death of the patriarch Carlo, The Vallesi family’s
publishing company has passed into the hands of his
children Laura, Vittorio and Filippo, through it is
Laura’s husband, Alex, who manages the concern.
Fantini, a long-time employee in trouble with loan
sharks, approaches Laura for financial help, and commits
suicide when she refuses. Out of revenge, Fantini’s
daughter, Roberta, a radiology assistant, switches
Laura’s x-rays with those of girl suffering
from a tumour. Laura leaves her native Perugia, allowing
her rancorous cousin Richardo to take over the firm.
The truth regarding the x-rays eventualy comes out,
but the consequences for Laura’s marriage have
been tragic. In addition, her brother’s lives
are ruined and the only hope for the girl that is
actually suffering from the tumour is a costly operation
in America.

The
Color of Sin
In
a world which seems to praise nothing but money,
where have the feelings gone? Is it possible for
someone to live a fairy tale nowadays?
These
are the questions asked by “The Color of
Sin”, a telenovela written by João
Emanuel Carneiro with core direction by Denise
Saraceni. The life story of Paco (Reynaldo Gianecchini),
Preta (Taís Araújo) and Bárbara
(Giovanna Antonelli) is told through a romantic
comedy format, featuring the importance of humanist
values, within a materialistic society. “The
Color of Sin” is an updated urban narrative
which is told with great sense of humor.
Alfonso
is a millionaire and greedy entrepreneur. In younger
days he had a relationship with his maid Edilásia,
who gave birth to the identical twins Paco and
Apolo. Advised by Germana, the house governess
and also Afonso’s trustworthy friend, Edilásia
kept the birth of the twins a secret. Alonso,
who believed that only one baby was born, raised
Paco, while Edilásia took off with Apolo.
Thefore the two brothers never met, and much less
knew of each other’s existence.

A
CASA DAS SETE MULHERES (The House of the Seven Women)
is a mini-series loosely based on a part of Brazilian
history (the Farroupilha War) and some very dynamic historical
characters. The Farroupilha War began when the Gaúchos,
people who lived in the Rio Grande do Sul region of Brazil
wanted independence from the Portugal Empire. They were
unhappy with the Portuguese rule (Imperials) and started
a revolt that lasted ten years, from 1835 to 1845. The
name of the civil war comes from the Portuguese word "Farrapos"
which means, ragged or tattered clothing.

With
the exception of their leaders, who were wealthy land owners,
the rebels (lower-class people, slaves, free blacks, and Indians)
were poorly dressed, poorly fed and in poor health. The historical
figures in this mini series include the following: Bento Gonçalves
da Silva (Werner Schünemann) - leader of the rebels, Giuseppe
Garibaldi (Thiago Lacerda) - an Italian adventurer and revolutionary,
Ana Maria de Jesus Ribeiro better known as Anita Garibaldi (Giovanna
Antonelli) - a revolutionary and abolitionist, and Manuela Ferreira
(Camelia Morgado) - the narrator of the story. Against the background
of this war, the story introduces the viewers to seven women
(all related to Bento Gonçalves) - Dona Ana Joaquina
(eldest sister of Bento Gonçalves), Caetana (wife of
Bento Gonçalves), Perpétua (Caetana's daughter),
Maria (sister of Bento Gonçalves), Manuela, Rosario,
and Mariana (Maria's daughters). Dona Antônia (Jandira
Martini), another sister of Bento Gonçalves, is not officially
considered part of the "Sete Mulheres" (Seven Women)
group but deserves a special mention. While the men are away
fighting, the women move into one house (Dona Ana Joaquina's
house) on a ranch for safety reasons. Each woman has a different
personality and absorbing storyline of love, grief, courage,
desire, hate, despair, hope, bitterness, and determination.
A CASA DAS SETE MULHERES (The House of the Seven Women) presents
a splendid story. Directed by Jayme Monjardim, it follows his
other successful works like "Terra Nostra" and "O
Clone." The actors give a strong perfo rmance. The scenery
of the southern part of Brazil is breathtaking. The music, directed
by Marcus Viana, is moving. The action, drama, and romance will
keep you glued to your T.V.
