The situation is not pleasant and definitely not hygienic. Also landscapes in Yerevan have nearly disappeared, instead the admiration and volume of cafes and restaurants increase daily. There are pressing environmental issues not only in Yerevan but also across the county. Statistics show that 81.9% or 24.353 thousand kms of forests in Armenia are on the verge of turning into deserts. Chairwoman of the “Armenian forests” NGO - Nazeli Vardanian notes that illegal tree cutting in Armenia has gone down twice, but the damage caused during the last 15-year is so great that much more serious and restricting measures should be taken to restore the green areas. |
